These are the questions the 2nd graders explored in their first unit The students learned about proportion and drawing a human face They used mirrors to draw themselves and these were photocopied four times. The standard for the lesson was to use tempera paints in their artwork
Getting started, i had the students compare and contrast their faces with the pictures of king tut’s burial mask.
Students used mirrors and drew from observation, noticing how the lines and features of their face changed with each new expression Next, we talked about how artists use color to express emotion. My students have such a great attitude and willingness to try anything and everything, that indeed several brought in hats, and chose to paint very creative compositions. I used to be an art instructor and would have loved to do this on water color day.but now that i'm a fulltime momma i am definitely going to try this with my kiddo's.
